What we're up to at the moment

I suppose the writing stage is what we might call this time right now. Many songs are finished and just haven't been put together yet.

The first album is starting to come about, idea's are sprouting up from all the upheaval that is occurring around our little worlds. The good things in life are still free. Getting used to the idea that we are to be heard outside of our little rehearsal space. We spent so long jamming out ideas that have since been torn apart and stuck back together only to be eventually thrown out the window or lost on someone's hard drive in between a million files.

Fresh songs are starting out now and only a handful of pre-09 pieces remain.

First day's recording this week. Anticipation is simmering away. First demo in a paid for studio with proper engineer. It will be fun and productive.

The song we've decided to start with came together so fast it simply had to be the first song to be done.

Hope to get it posted up soon. Budget is tight. Time is short. Quick intense periods of being a band, but sure it keeps us from doing other things that could be seen as self destructive.

Off to the studio...

We're heading into the studio to record the start of our first EP, we'll keep you posted on how it's going and it'll be up on the site when we've finished it... Exciting times!

Fingal Independent Article

"Arcanum ex have been together - in their current form - for the last 12 months, having gone through several line-up changes. The four-piece features exSkanks member, John Rennie, on bass, with Tom O'Brien on lead vocals and guitar, Martin O'Mahoney on lead guitar and vocals and drummer Wayne Alright. Tom and John are both original members, who formed the band at Ozzfest in 2002, and Tom got in touch with John to get the project going again last year.

John soon recruited Martin and the band haven't looked back since.

Listing influences as diverse as Queens of the Stone Age, Faith No More, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana and Deftones, the band are keen to craft out their own sound. They played a successful gig in Eamon Doran's last week, where a live set full of energy and power brought the house down.

Arcanum ex are planning to record an EP in the summer, while fans can sample a number of home studio recordings on their website." - Robin Kiely, Fingal Independent, 10/6/09

Well we did it... We've just done our first gig as a band last Tuesday, after two years of endless jams. We played Eamon Dorans in Dublin with some pretty talented bands... looking forward now to doing some more gigs, hopefully we'll see you there :)
